Interdisciplinarity

society Maturity 13-18 Next article →

Sometimes, one subject is not enough to solve a big problem. People can mix different areas of study to work together. This is called interdisciplinarity. It is like a team of experts. One person might study plants. Another person might study math. They join their skills to reach a goal.

This idea is very old. Long ago, Greek thinkers used many ideas to understand the world. In old Rome, builders made roads. They needed people who knew about tools and planning. In the 1600s, a man named Leibniz used many subjects to study justice. He used law, math, and even language.

Today, we use this way to study hard things. We use it to learn about global warming. We also use it to study health and diseases. Some new fields grew from this. For example, biochemistry mixes biology and chemistry. This helps scientists find new answers. Working together helps us face a changing world.
