Ibadah is an Arabic word. It means worship or service. For Muslims, it means being devoted to God. It also means showing obedience and humility. Some thinkers say it has a broad meaning. It includes being honest in speech. It also means being fair in business. It means being kind to parents and friends.

There are rules for these acts of worship. These rules are called ibadat. Ibadat helps Muslims follow the same path. This keeps the religion strong. There are five main pillars in Islam.

First is the Shahada. This is a declaration of faith. Second is Salat. This is ritual prayer done five times a day. Third is Zakat. This is giving a part of one's wealth to help others. Fourth is Sawm. This is fasting during the month of Ramadan. People do not eat or drink during the day. Fifth is Hajj. This is a special journey to the city of Mecca. Adults who are able should make this trip once. It is a very important part of the faith.
