Hydraulic manifold

technology Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A hydraulic manifold helps a machine work. It controls how fluid flows. You can think of it like a switchboard. It directs fluid between different parts.

This part is a metal block. It has paths drilled through it. These paths connect to different ports. These ports are openings for fluid. A manifold has many valves. Valves are parts that control flow. These valves connect to each other. They work in different ways. This lets the machine do many tasks.

A backhoe loader uses a manifold. This machine has two buckets. The manifold moves fluid to the arms. This makes the buckets move. It can turn the flow on. It can also shut it off. It can even change where fluid goes.

The operator uses levers to help. These levers are in the cabin. They tell the manifold what to do. The manifold has a large pipe inside. This pipe is called a barrel. Many smaller pipes connect to it. These small pipes join at junctions. This way, the fluid reaches every part.
