Some people think it means having a low opinion of oneself. Many modern thinkers have a different view. They say it means having an accurate opinion of yourself. This includes being modest and having a broad mind. It also means having a clear sense of your own goals. Humility helps people stay focused and open to new things. It is about having a proper sense of self-regard.

This shows how the word connects to being low or at the bottom. Today, we use it to describe a way of acting.

Many different religions see humility as a great virtue. In Judaism, it means appreciating your own talents and skills. Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks said it is not about being meek. Instead, it is about recognizing the mysteries of a vast life.
