Most people in these countries speak Spanish. Some also speak native languages. These include Quechua, Mayan, and Aymara. Many people also follow the Catholic religion.

This region has a long history. In 1492, people from Spain arrived. They wanted to find wealth in the New World. This led to the Spanish Empire growing very large. Later, many countries fought for their independence. Most of these fights happened between 1808 and 1826.

The people in Hispanic America have many roots. They come from three main groups. These are Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans. Because these groups lived together, many mixed families formed.

People with mixed roots are often called Mestizos. In some places, people have both European and African or Indigenous roots. This mix makes the culture very special.
