He studied many different things at once. His work helped the fields of computer science and economics. He also studied cognitive psychology, which is how the mind works. He wanted to understand how people make choices in groups. This helped many people understand how organizations function. His ideas changed how we think about smart machines and human behavior.

Simon had a special way of looking at decisions. He believed that people cannot know every single fact about a choice. In his book, "Administrative Behavior," he explained this idea. He said that people use "bounded rationality." This means our ability to make perfect choices has limits. Instead of finding the perfect answer, we use "satisficing." This is when we pick a choice that is good enough.

To make a decision, Simon said we follow three steps. First, we must list all the possible choices. Second, we look at what might happen with each choice. Third, we compare those results to see which is best. In real life, it is hard to do all this perfectly. We often do not know every single result that might happen. Simon showed how people find ways to work around these limits.

Simon was born on June 15, 1916, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His father, Arthur Simon, was an electrical engineer. His mother, Edna Marguerite Merkel, was a talented pianist. Simon went to the University of Chicago for college. He earned his B.A. in 1936 and his Ph.D. in 1943. He spent most of his career at Carnegie Mellon University. He worked there from 1949 until 2001.

He was a pioneer in artificial intelligence and complex systems. His work connects how humans think with how computers process information. This helps us understand the world we live in today.
