Norbert Wiener was a brilliant thinker who changed how we see the world.

He was a mathematician, a philosopher, and a computer scientist. He is most famous for starting a science called cybernetics. This science looks at how living things and machines communicate. It studies how they use information to work and grow. This idea helps many fields like biology and engineering. It even helps us understand how our own brains work.

Cybernetics works by looking at how systems use feedback. Feedback is when a system checks its own results to make changes. Wiener believed that all smart behavior comes from these feedback loops. He thought machines could be built to simulate this kind of intelligence. This was a very important step for modern artificial intelligence. His work helped people understand how to control complex systems. It showed how math could explain life and machines together.

Wiener was a child prodigy who learned things very quickly. He was born in Columbia, Missouri, in 1894. His father, Leo Wiener, was a tutor who taught him math at home. Norbert graduated from high school when he was only 11 years old. He earned his first college degree at the age of 14. By the time he was 19, he had earned a PhD from Harvard.

He was one of the youngest people ever to do this.

During his life, Wiener traveled to many famous places to study. He went to Cambridge University in England to learn from great thinkers. He also studied in Göttingen, Germany, to learn about math and ethics. During World War I, he even served as a soldier in the army. Later, he became a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT. He spent most of his career working and teaching there.

He was a very well-known figure on that campus.

Many people remember Wiener for his amazing mind and his funny habits. He was often called absent-minded because he forgot things easily. One famous story says he once came home to an empty house. He did not realize his family had moved to a new place! His work also helped other famous scientists like Claude Shannon. He left behind a legacy that still helps us build computers today. His ideas connect the way we think to the way machines work.
