He is known as a founder of modern management methods. This means he helped create the ways people run big companies today. Many people call his set of ideas Fayolism. He studied how to make groups of people work better together. His work was very important for the business world. He wanted to find a way to make large companies run smoothly.

Fayol developed his ideas by watching how businesses worked in real life. He believed there are six types of activities in a company. These include technical, commercial, financial, security, accounting, and managerial activities. He also said managers have five main jobs to do. They must practice planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Controlling means a manager looks at the results to make necessary changes. This step helps fix any mistakes that happen during work.

Fayol's journey began in a suburb of Constantinople in 1841. His family moved back to France in 1847. He graduated from a mining academy in Saint-Étienne in 1860. At age 19, he started working for the Compagnie de Commentry-Fourchambault-Decazeville. A man named Stéphane Mony became his mentor. Fayol eventually became the managing director of this large company. He used his skills to turn a failing firm into a strong one.

He wrote his main ideas in a book called Administration Industrielle et Générale. This was published in 1916. He also shared his thoughts in many articles about mining. He wrote about coal fires and fossils starting in the 1870s. His ideas became even more famous after a translation in 1949. This English version helped people in the USA learn about him. Before he retired in 1918, he helped make his company one of the largest in Europe.

Fayol also created fourteen principles to guide leaders. One principle is the division of work. This means workers focus on special tasks to become faster and more accurate. Another principle is equity, which means treating all employees with kindness and justice. He also suggested a "Gang Plank" for quick communication. This allows two workers to talk directly during an emergency. These ideas help people understand how to organize teams and stay productive today.
