Hemiunu was a very important person in ancient Egypt.

He lived a long time ago, around 2570 BC. Many people believe he was the architect of the Great Pyramid of Giza. This means he was the person who designed the huge building. He held many powerful titles in the royal court. He was a prince and a vizier. A vizier is a top leader who helps the king. He also served as the keeper of the royal seal.

Being a vizier was a very big job.

Hemiunu was second only to the king himself. He was the nephew of the pharaoh Khufu. The king gave him the task of overseeing all royal works. This meant he managed many different building projects. He had to make sure everything was built correctly. He was a very high-ranking official in the government. His job helped the king show his power to the world.

History tells us a lot about Hemiunu's family.

He was the son of Prince Nefermaat and a woman named Itet. His father, Nefermaat, was also a leader. Hemiunu had many brothers and three sisters. He was also the grandson of a leader named Sneferu. His uncle was the pharaoh Khufu. These family ties helped him hold his important positions. He belonged to the royal family of the Old Kingdom.

Archaeologists found a famous statue of Hemiunu in 1912.

Hermann Junker found it inside a walled room in Hemiunu's tomb. The tomb is a large stone grave called a mastaba.

The statue is very special because it looks very real. Most Egyptian art shows people looking perfect and slim. However, this statue shows that Hemiunu was an obese man. It shows his real body shape with great detail. This was not common in art from that time.

We can learn about Egypt by looking at his tomb.

Hemiunu's tomb is in the Giza West Field. It sits right next to the Great Pyramid. His tomb is much larger than the other graves nearby. This size shows how much respect people had for him. The graves in this area are arranged in neat rows. These buildings helped the leaders manage the land and its people. Hemiunu remains a very important figure in history.
