In his first two years, he stopped raids by groups in Upper Egypt. He may have led a military campaign to keep peace. One statue shows him holding a Libyan captive to show his strength. Egypt also faced problems with its money and rising prices. The land was losing control of territories in Canaan. These struggles made it very hard to fund big building projects. The king had to work hard to maintain his power.

Ramesses VI was a very busy builder.

He took over a tomb called KV9 in the Valley of the Kings. This tomb was originally meant for Ramesses V. The king made the tomb larger and added new decorations. Interestingly, the huts built near this tomb actually hid the tomb of Tutankhamun. This helped save Tutankhamun's tomb from robbers for many years. Ramesses VI also put his name on older monuments. He did this to look like a great leader during a difficult age.

Family was very important to the king.

He was married to Queen Nubkhesbed. They had several children, including a daughter named Iset. Iset held a very important religious role as the Divine Adoratrice of Amun. His son, Ramesses VII, became the next king after him. Some scholars think he may have had another son named Ramesses IX. These family ties helped keep his legacy alive in Egypt.

We know about Ramesses VI because of the things he left behind.
