Guan used black ink and delicate strokes. Many people thought her style was very strong. In her time, bamboo was seen as a masculine subject. It can bend without breaking. This showed strength and steady friendship. Guan painted bamboo as part of a big landscape. She often showed bamboo growing in thickets with mist and rain. This made her work look very natural.
