Leibniz also created the modern binary number system. This system uses only two numbers to represent everything. Today, this is the basis for all digital computers. His way of writing math is still used by many people. It is often seen as a very exact way to show ideas.

His journey into learning began very early in his life.

He was born on July 1, 1646, in Leipzig, Germany. His father was a professor of philosophy. When Leibniz was only seven, he began using his father's large library. This helped him learn many languages, including Latin. He was very good at Latin by the age of 12. By age 14, he was already studying at a university. He earned his master's degree in philosophy in 1664.

Leibniz was also a builder of clever machines.

He wanted to make math easier for everyone. He worked on a machine that could add and subtract. He also wanted it to multiply and divide. In 1685, he described a special pinwheel calculator. He invented the Leibniz wheel to make this work. This wheel was later used in the first mass-produced mechanical calculator. He was a true pioneer in the field of technology.

Throughout his life, Leibniz was always sharing his ideas. He wrote tens of thousands of letters to other thinkers.
