Sir Isaac Newton was one of the most important thinkers in history.

He was an English scientist who studied many different things. He was a mathematician, a physicist, and an astronomer. He even worked as an inventor and a member of Parliament. Newton lived during a time called the Scientific Revolution. This was a period when people began to use new ways to understand the world. His work helped start the Enlightenment, which changed how humans think about nature.

Newton discovered how the universe works through math and observation. He created the laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation. Gravity is the force that pulls objects toward one another. This same force explains why an apple falls to the ground and why planets stay in orbit. He showed that the same rules apply to Earth and the stars.

He also studied light using a glass prism. He saw that white light actually contains many colors. This discovery helped explain the visible spectrum. He even built a reflecting telescope to see the sky more clearly.

Newton's journey began in a small place called Woolsthorpe Manor.

He was born on Christmas Day in 1642. His father died three months before he was born. When he was young, his mother sent him to live with his grandmother. Later, he went to The King's School in Grantham. He was a very hard worker and a top student there. He loved building models of windmills and sundials. These early projects helped him learn about how things work.

In 1661, Newton went to Trinity College at the University of Cambridge.

During the Great Plague, he went home to Woolsthorpe for two years. This time was very productive for his science. He developed calculus, which is a way to study change with math. He also wrote his most famous book, the *Principia*, in 1687. This book established classical mechanics. Newton became a professor at Cambridge when he was only 26 years old. He was also the president of the Royal Society for many years.

Many things we use today come from Newton's ideas. His math helps us understand how objects move at low speeds. Even though newer theories exist, his laws are still very useful. His work on light helped lead to the invention of lasers. He also helped make British coins more secure at the Royal Mint.

Newton showed us that the world follows rules that we can learn. He turned the study of nature into a modern science.
