Males have very long necks. Their necks are two to three times longer than females. This difference is called sexual dimorphism. This means males and females look different.

Males use their long necks to fight. They also use them to find mates. A male will sway his neck to dance. This shows off his bright colors. The female watches the dance. If she likes it, they mate.

These bugs live on forest trees. They eat tree leaves. Females make a special nest. They roll up a leaf into a tube. They lay one egg inside the tube. Then the leaf falls to the ground. The baby larva eats the leaf for food. Birds and lemurs may eat these bugs. In Madagascar, people use them for jewelry. In 2021, one bug cost about 10 USD.
