Geysir is a famous hot spring in Iceland.

It is found in the Haukadalur valley. The name Geysir comes from an Icelandic word. That word means to go forward quickly. This spring can shoot boiling water high into the air. In the year 2000, it reached 122 meters tall. This made it one of the highest geysers ever seen.

Earthquakes play a big role in how Geysir works. Shaking in the ground can make the spring erupt more often. In 1896, an earthquake caused it to erupt many times a day. In 1935, people dug a ditch to help it work. This ditch was made to move water. Later, the ditch got clogged with silica. Silica is a mineral found in the hot water. This mineral forms a hard layer called sinter around the spring.
