Geysir is a famous hot spring in Iceland. 
Earthquakes play a big role in how Geysir works. Shaking in the ground can make the spring erupt more often. In 1896, an earthquake caused it to erupt many times a day. In 1935, people dug a ditch to help it work. This ditch was made to move water. Later, the ditch got clogged with silica. Silica is a mineral found in the hot water. This mineral forms a hard layer called sinter around the spring.

In 1882, a survey found that a booming sound often warns of an eruption. These early studies helped us understand how these natural features work today.
