It sits in the direction of the Sagittarius stars. It is a very bright spot in the sky.

A giant object lives at the very middle. This is a supermassive black hole. Scientists call it Sagittarius A*.

It is very heavy. It has the mass of about 4 million suns. Gas falls toward it. This can make the area glow with power.

Space is full of dust. This dust blocks our view. We cannot see the center with normal light. Instead, we use infrared light. This is a type of light that can pass through dust.

We also use radio waves to study it.

Many stars live near the center. There are 10 million stars in a small area. Most are old red giant stars. But there are also many young, massive stars. These stars formed about 1 million years ago.
