It is a center of gravity. This pull draws in many galaxies. Our own Milky Way galaxy is moving toward it. It moves at 600 km/s.

It is hard to see the Great Attractor. Our own galaxy blocks the view. This dark area is called the Zone of Avoidance. Scientists use X-rays to look past it. They found the Norma Cluster there. This is a big group of galaxies.

The Great Attractor is part of Laniakea. Laniakea is a supercluster. A supercluster is a very large group of galaxies. This group spans 500 million light-years. The Great Attractor acts like a core for Laniakea. Some scientists think it is moving toward the Shapley Attractor. This is an even bigger pull. The Great Attractor might just be one part of a larger structure.
