G-Cloud

space Maturity 5-7 Next article →

A big cloud lives in space. We call it the G-Cloud. It sits near the Local Interstellar Cloud. Both clouds are inside the Local Bubble.

Our Solar System is moving toward the G-Cloud. We do not know our exact spot. We might be in the Local Interstellar Cloud. Or, we might be where the clouds meet.

This cloud holds many stars. It has a star named Altair. It also has a group called Alpha Centauri. This group has three stars. One star in that group is Proxima Centauri.

Scientists study how thick the cloud is. They look at how many tiny particles are inside. In 2011, a man named Crawford did a study. He found a small number for the density. In 2014, a person named Gry did a study too. They found a slightly different number. These numbers tell us about the cloud near Alpha Centauri. It is a very big place in space.
