Furry lobster

life science Maturity 7-9 Next article →

The furry lobster is a small sea animal. It is a decapod crustacean. This means it is a type of shell-covered animal with ten legs. It is a close relative of the spiny lobster. It is also related to the slipper lobster.

These animals have short hairs on their bodies. These hairs give them their name. Their antennae are not very large. This is different from spiny lobsters. Scientists once thought they were their own family. Now they belong to the Palinuridae family. This family includes ten types of spiny lobsters too.

There are two main groups of furry lobsters. These groups have three different species. One is the mole lobster. It lives in the Indo-Pacific. The Caribbean furry lobster lives in the Caribbean Sea. It also lives on the Atlantic coast of South America.

The last kind is the musical furry lobster. It comes from the South Pacific. Scientists first found it near Samoa. These small animals are part of a big group called Achelata.
