Fula has a very neat way of grouping words. It uses noun classes. These are groups for different kinds of things. One class is for long, thin things. Another class is for liquids like water. There are often 24 to 26 of these classes. This helps people organize the world in speech.

People use different ways to write Fula. Some use the Latin script, which uses letters like ours. They use special letters with hooks to show certain sounds. Others use a script called Ajami. This uses the Arabic alphabet. In 1989, two brothers made a new script. They were from Guinea. They named it Adlam. It has 28 letters. It is written from right to left. This script helps people write the sounds of Fula very well.
