Making these books was a very big deal. Poets would risk their lives to be in them.

Shunzei had a special style. He liked poems that felt deep and mysterious. He called this feeling yugen. He wanted poems to have a special mood. This mood was not just in the words. It was a feeling that stayed with the reader.

Shunzei also became a Buddhist monk later in life. He passed his skills to his family. His son, Teika, was a great poet too. He also taught his daughter how to write. They kept his love for poetry alive.
