Friesians are strong and muscular. They weigh between 1,250 and 1,450 pounds. They are gentle and calm, but they also have lots of power. They can trot with a high, brisk step.

In the past, these horses helped knights in battle. Later, they worked on farms. Today, people use them for riding and driving carts. They are even popular in movies!

The breed almost died out many times. In the early 1900s, there were only three breeding stallions left. Now, groups work hard to protect them. They use DNA testing to check the health of the horses. This helps keep the breed strong for the future.
