People love this sport because it allows for great skill. It brings a community of riders together. They share videos and talk on internet forums. These groups help people connect all over the world.

In the beginning, scooters were not made for tricks. A man named Wim Ouboter invented a foldable scooter in 1999. These were meant for easy travel. Because they were light, they often broke during stunts. Riders had to use "hacks" to fix them. They used hot glue on plastic wheels. They even put extra metal tubes inside the parts. They wanted to make their scooters much stronger.

Over time, the way scooters are made has changed a lot. One big change was the threadless fork. Andrew Broussard created the first one. It was made of steel and was very bulky. This made the front of the scooter much tougher. Another change was the one-piece bar. These bars are welded together so they do not shake. This makes riding feel much more stable for the rider.

New parts have made scootering even better. Companies now make metal core wheels. These are much stronger than old plastic wheels. Some companies also make one-piece decks. A company named TSI made the first one in 2009. These decks are welded together to stop wobbling. There is also a system called SCS. This uses a large clamp to hold parts tightly. It makes the scooter very strong.

Scootering has grown into a huge global activity. The first big competition was in Montreux, Switzerland, in 2005. Now, there are even World Championships held every year. Dakota Schuetz won the first one in 2012. Riders now compete in different groups like street or park. People even talk about adding scootering to the 2028 Olympics. It is a sport that keeps growing every day.
