He was a key part of German Expressionism. This is a style of art that uses strong feelings. Marc loved to paint animals in nature. He used bright colors to show deep meaning. He used blue to show spirit and masculinity. He used yellow to show joy. He used red to show the sound of violence.

In 1911, he helped start a group called Der Blaue Reiter. This name means "The Blue Rider." He worked with other artists to make new kinds of art. During World War I, Marc served in the army. He used his skill to make camouflage. This is a way to hide things using paint. He painted covers to hide tools from planes.

Sadly, Marc died in 1916 during the war. Later, the Nazi party called his art "degenerate." This meant they did not like his modern style. They took many of his works from museums. Many of his paintings survived, though. Today, his art is in many great museums.
