He is known for helping start abstract art. This is art that does not always look like real objects. He loved how colors could show deep feelings.

As a child, Kandinsky loved bright colors. He saw shimmering colors on old churches in Russia. This helped him see art in a new way. He once said that art is like music. To him, colors are like keys on a piano. The artist is the hand that plays them.

Kandinsky lived in many places. He lived in Russia, Germany, and France. In Germany, he taught at a famous art school called the Bauhaus. He also led a group of artists called The Blue Rider.

He used shapes like circles and squares in his work. He wanted his paintings to touch the human soul. He called this his "inner necessity."
