She was born in the Russian Empire. Later, she moved to Paris to study art. Sonia loved to use bright colors and geometric shapes. These are shapes like circles and squares.

She helped start a new art style called Orphism. This style used strong colors to show movement.

Sonia also believed art should be part of daily life. She did not just make paintings. She made beautiful fabrics, furniture, and clothing.

One special way she used color was called simultaneous design. This happens when colors placed side by side affect each other. Sonia used this idea for many things. She made a long, pleated book for a poem. She also designed costumes for plays and films. She even had her own fashion studio. In 1964, she was the first living female artist to have a big show at the Louvre museum. Her work changed how people look at fashion and art together.
