The painting shows the Circus Corvi. Musicians play instruments like the cornet and trombone. They stand on a platform under bright gas lights. These lights give off an orange glow. Some people stand in the dark shadows. Others wait in line to buy tickets. The painting uses many straight lines. This makes the scene look very neat and organized. Some experts say the painting feels mysterious. It was his first painting of a show at night. This was a new way for him to use light. Today, you can see it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
