Lorenz is known as a founder of modern ethology. He spent much time watching geese.

He studied a special way animals bond. This is called imprinting. It happens to some birds that leave the nest early. These birds bond with the first moving object they see. This usually happens in the first few hours after they hatch. This bond helps the young birds recognize their own kind.

After the war, he felt regret about his past. He joined the Nazi Party in 1938. He later wrote many popular books about animals and life.
