Frank William Abagnale Jr. is a well-known American man. He has lived a life full of many different roles. Some people know him as a security consultant. Others know him as an author or a former criminal. He was born in the Bronx, New York, on April 27, 1948.

His early years were spent in Bronxville, New York. His parents separated when he was 12 years old. They divorced when he was 15 years old. This was a big change for his young life.

For many years, Frank told stories about his past. He claimed he had many important jobs. He said he was a pilot for Pan Am. He also said he was a doctor in Georgia. He even claimed he was a lawyer in Louisiana.

He said he traveled to 26 different countries. He claimed he used fake checks to get millions of dollars. These stories became the basis for his 1980 book. The book was called Catch Me If You Can. He wrote it with a man named Stan Redding.

However, many of these famous stories were not true. Journalists began to look for proof in 1978. They could not find evidence for most of his claims. In 2020, an author named Alan C. Logan did more research. He looked at public records and prison documents. He found that most of the stories were made up. For example, Frank said he was a doctor in Georgia. But records show he was actually in prison then. He also claimed to be a lawyer in Louisiana. But the state bar found no record of him.

Frank eventually changed his path in life. He started to use his skills for good. In 1976, he founded a firm called Abagnale and Associates. This company helps banks and government groups. They teach people how to stop fraud. Fraud is when someone uses tricks to steal money.

He became a very popular speaker on this topic. He even joined the AARP as a Fraud Watch Ambassador. He now helps people stay safe from scams.

His life has inspired many kinds of art. A famous movie came out in December 2002. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg. It was called Catch Me If You Can. Leonardo DiCaprio played the part of Frank Abagnale. Tom Hanks played the FBI agent in the film.
