Baresi played using two main roles on the field. He was a central defender or a sweeper. A sweeper is a player who stays behind the others to clean up mistakes. He used his speed and strength to stop opponents. Even though he was not very tall, he was great in the air. He combined power with a very elegant way of moving. This helped him protect his team's goal with great skill.
