Fracking is a way to get fuel from deep rocks.

This method is also called hydraulic fracturing. It helps oil and gas flow more easily.

To start, workers use a wellbore. This is a deep hole in the ground. They pump a special liquid into the hole. This liquid is called fracking fluid. It is mostly water. It also has sand or other small bits in it. The liquid is pushed with very high pressure. This pressure makes cracks in the deep rock.

When the pressure stops, the small grains of sand stay in the cracks. These grains are called proppants. They hold the cracks open. This allows natural gas and oil to flow out.

Fracking is a big topic. Some people say it helps us get more fuel. It can make energy costs lower. Other people worry about the earth. They worry about water and air pollution. They also worry about earthquakes. Because of this, many countries have rules for it.
