He is often called the founder of the Lebanese Army. This happened after Lebanon became an independent country. He served as the president of Lebanon from 1958 to 1964. Many people remember him for his honesty and his work. He helped change how the country was run. His ideas were so important that people called his style "Chehabism."

Chehab's life followed a very clear path. First, he joined the French Army in 1919. He studied at a military school in Damascus, Syria. He graduated as a lieutenant in 1923. Later, he studied at a special war school in Paris, France. After Lebanon became independent, he became the first commander of its army in 1946. He moved from being a soldier to being a leader for the whole nation.

He was born in 1902 in a place called Ghazir. His family, the Chehabs, were part of a dynasty. They had ruled Mount Lebanon for a long time. His great-grandfather was Hassan Chehab. Hassan was the brother of Bashir Shihab II, who ruled Lebanon from 1789 to 1840. Chehab's father was named Abdallah Chehab. His mother was named Badiaa Hbeich.

Chehab faced many hard jobs while leading the country. In 1952, he became the Prime Minister of Lebanon. During a big crisis in 1958, he made a very brave choice. He refused to let the army pick sides in a fight. This helped keep the army unified and saved many lives. Because people trusted him to be fair, they elected him president.

Even after his presidency, Chehab's impact stayed strong. He did not want to stay in power forever. In 1964, he refused to change the rules to run for president again. He supported other leaders like Charles Helou and Elias Sarkis. Chehab died in Beirut in April 1973 at age 71. Today, his home in Jounieh is a museum. It cost 1.5 million dollars to turn his house into a museum.
