Riad Al Solh was a very important leader in Lebanon. He helped his country find freedom. Many people call him one of the founders of Lebanon. He worked hard to bring different groups of people together. This was a big job because people had different religious beliefs. He wanted everyone to live in peace in their new nation.

Solh worked in many different ways to help the government. He served as the prime minister twice. The first time was from 1943 to 1945. He served again from 1946 to 1951. During his first term, he held other jobs too. He was the Minister of Finance for a while. He was also the minister of supplies and reserves.

His life began in a city called Sidon. He was born there on August 17, 1894. His father was Reda Al Solh. Reda was a leader who worked in Nabatiyyah and Sidon. Riad grew up in a family that cared about their land. He spent much of his youth in Istanbul. Later, he went to the University of Paris to study law.

One of his biggest achievements was the National Pact. He made this agreement with President Bishara Al Khouri in 1943. It was an unwritten agreement between leaders. It helped different religious groups share power. The plan used a census from 1932 to decide roles. Maronite Christians, Sunni Muslims, and Shiite Muslims each got specific positions. This helped the country stay organized.

Solh's family remained very active in history. He was married to Fayza Al Jabiri. They had five daughters named Alia, Lamia, Mona, Bahija, and Leila. His eldest daughter, Alia, also worked for Lebanon. His daughter Leila became one of the first female ministers. Even though he died in 1951 at an airport in Jordan, people remember him. There is even a large square in Beirut named after him.
