Making a movie takes many steps. One key part is film editing.

An editor takes raw footage and picks the best shots. They put these shots together to tell a story. Some people call this "the invisible art." This is because good editing feels natural to the viewer.

Editors control four main things. First, they look at how shots look. They use light, color, and shapes to connect them. Second, they control the rhythm. Short shots can make a scene feel fast. Long shots can make it feel slow. Third, they manage space. They can show how different places connect. Fourth, they control time. They can use flashbacks to show the past.

Early films were just one long shot. They did not have stories. Later, pioneers like Robert W. Paul used more than one shot.

Georges Méliès used special tricks to layer images. In 1903, Edwin S. Porter made a film called "The Great Train Robbery."

He used many shots to show action in different places. This helped create the movies we love today.
