It describes a change in the first humans. They moved from a state of innocent obedience to God. This state changed to one of guilty disobedience. This idea comes from the book of Genesis in the Bible. The story explains how the world changed for people. It is a very important part of religious teaching.

In the story, Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. God lived with them in this beautiful place. He gave them one rule to follow. They were not allowed to eat fruit from a specific tree. This was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

A serpent tempted Eve to eat the fruit. She then shared the fruit with Adam. After they ate it, they felt ashamed of being naked. Because they disobeyed, God sent them out of the Garden. He also placed cherubim to guard the tree of life. This kept them from living forever.

Many different groups of people have different views on this event. Nicene Christians believe the Fall brought sin into the whole world. They believe this changed human nature for everyone. This is often called original sin. The Eastern Orthodox Church also accepts the idea of the Fall. However, they do not believe the guilt is passed down to children. They look to the book of Ezekiel to support this view. This shows how different faiths can see the same story in different ways.

History and books give us more details about these beliefs. The term "Fall of man" might come from the Book of Wisdom. This Greek work is dated to the mid-first century BC. Some ancient texts like the Book of Jubilees give specific dates. It says the serpent tempted Eve in the eighth year after creation.

The text says they left the Garden during the fourth month. These details help people understand how ancient writers thought about time. They used these stories to explain the world around them.

This narrative is part of a tradition shared by Abrahamic religions. It includes Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. While Christians focus on original sin, other religions have different views. The story has had a huge impact on human history. It has shaped how people think about gender and roles in society.
