It has a thick body and a short tail. Its fur is black, white, brown, and grey. Some people think its name comes from the white mark on its head. This mark looks like a badge.

Badgers live in large homes underground. These homes are called setts.

A sett has many tunnels and rooms. Many badger families use the same sett for many years. Badgers are very clean. They bring in fresh bedding to their homes. They also use special spots outside to go to the bathroom.

Badgers are omnivores. This means they eat both plants and animals.

They eat earthworms, bugs, and small mammals. They also eat cereals and tubers, which are plant parts like roots. They are nocturnal. This means they are active at night and sleep during the day. In the spring, a mother can have up to five cubs. The cubs stay with their family group after they grow up.
