Most mustelids have long, thin bodies. They have short legs and round ears. They also have thick fur. This fur helps them stay warm. It can even act as camouflage. Many mustelids live alone. Most are active at night.

These animals live in many places. Some live in trees. Others dig tunnels in the ground. Some live in the water. The sea otter is a great swimmer. It even uses rocks as tools. It uses stones to crack open shellfish.

Most mustelids eat meat. They have special teeth for eating flesh. Some can even crush thick bones.
