It serves as a way for people to see how events affect Europe and the world. Many people watch the news through satellite signals in Europe and North Africa. You can also find their news on the internet or on mobile devices. This makes the news easy to reach for people almost everywhere. The network helps connect different cultures through shared information.

The network works by using a special way to share news called a glocal strategy. This means they make news that is global but also feels local. In 2017, Euronews split its services into twelve separate language editions. This change allowed news teams to pick stories that matter to their own people. They use local reporters to show news from their own homes. Some channels use a digital path called fiber-optic IP uplink to reach viewers. This helps them send news quickly to many different places at once.

The history of Euronews began in 1992 after the Persian Gulf War. A group called the EBU wanted a way to show news from a European view. Ten national broadcasters formed a group called SOCEMIE to start the channel. They chose the city of Lyon in France to be their main home. The very first broadcast happened on New Year's Day in 1993. It started in a place called Écully.

Many different companies and countries have owned parts of the network over time. In 1997, a British company called ITN bought a 49% share. Later, in 2009, a Turkish broadcaster named TRT bought 15.70% of the shares. In 2015, Media Globe Networks bought a 53% controlling stake. Then, in 2017, the American group NBCUniversal joined as a partner. They paid €25 million for a 25% stake in the company. This partnership helped Euronews work with NBC News on many projects.

You might recognize Euronews from the many shows they have on air. They have shows where people talk directly to the camera. One example is a morning show called Good Morning Europe.
