Agence France-Presse, also called AFP, is a famous news agency. It is based in Paris, France.

This agency is very important for the world. It provides news that is fast and fair. It also makes sure all facts are true. AFP shares news in many different ways. They use text, photos, and even video. They also make infographics, which are pictures that explain facts.

This helps people everywhere understand what is happening in the world.

How does the agency work to share news? First, they collect information from many places. They then verify and cross-check the facts. This means they check them many times to be sure. Once the news is ready, they distribute it. They send it to radio stations and television channels. They also send it to websites and newspapers.

This service helps big companies and governments stay informed too. They do this in six languages: French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, and German.

AFP has a very long history. It started a long time ago in 1835. Back then, it was called Havas. This makes it the oldest news agency in the world.

In 1944, after the Liberation of Paris, it was reorganized. It took the new name Agence France-Presse. In 1957, a law was passed to make it independent. This helped the agency stay separate from the government. They have worked to grow their global network for many years.

Today, AFP is a huge organization with many people. They have 2,400 employees from 100 different nationalities.

These workers are located in 260 cities across 150 countries. They have main regional offices in places like Hong Kong and Washington, D.C. The agency makes money in two main ways. Two-thirds of the money comes from commercial activities. The other third comes from the French government. In 2022, the government provided 113.3 million euros to help them.

You can see the work of AFP in your daily life. When you watch a news report, it might come from them. When you see a photo of a world event, AFP might have taken it.

Their photographers have won many big prizes, like the Pulitzer Prize. They even have a special group called AFP Graphics. This group makes about 70 graphics every single day. These pictures help explain things like politics and sports. It is a way to see the news clearly.
