Ethnobiology is the study of how people and nature live together.

It looks at the links between humans and the living world. This includes plants, animals, and the places where they live.

Scientists study how different groups use nature. Some people use plants for food or medicine. Others use them for tools or for special ceremonies. Ethnobiologists also look at how people name things. Every culture has its own way to sort the living world. They might use different words for a tree or a small bug.

This field has a long history. Long ago, people like Carl Linnaeus used local knowledge to study plants. In the 1950s, researchers began to study how people think about nature. Today, ethnobiology is a big field of study. It helps us with ecology, which is the study of nature. It also helps with conservation, which means protecting the Earth.

Researchers must be very careful and kind. They must respect the ideas of the people they study.
