Biogeography is the study of where living things live.

It looks at where plants, animals, and fungi live. Scientists ask why certain species live in one place but not another.

Many things change where life grows. The weather and the shape of the land matter. Even the movement of continents can change everything. Long ago, all land was one big piece called Pangea. Slowly, the land drifted apart. This moved animals and plants to new spots.

Islands are very special for this study. They are smaller than the mainland. This makes them easier to study. Scientists can watch how new species move across an island. They also see how animals change over time.

Many famous people helped this science grow. Alfred Russel Wallace is often called the father of biogeography. He studied how food and habitats affect life. Charles Darwin also studied how species change in different places.

Today, scientists use computer maps to predict where life will go next.
