Environmental philosophy

philosophy religion Maturity 13-18 Next article →

Environmental philosophy is a way of thinking. It looks at our world and nature. People ask many big questions. They ask what nature really is. They ask how we should treat it. They also ask how we should face problems like climate change.

Some thinkers study the value of nature. They wonder if nature is good on its own. This is called intrinsic value. Others think nature is good because it helps humans. This is a different way to think.

One group is called deep ecology. They believe all life has value. They say humans should not hurt the diversity of life. They think we must change how we live. We should focus on life quality instead of just having more stuff.

Another idea is social ecology. Murray Bookchin shared this idea in 1982. He said our problems with nature are social problems. He thought that trying to control nature is like trying to control people. To help the earth, we must build fair societies. This means people should work together as equals.
