Posthumanism

philosophy religion Maturity 13-18 Next article →

Posthumanism is a way of thinking about being human. It is a new idea in philosophy. This idea looks at how people relate to the world. It says we are tied to many things. We are connected to plants and animals. We are also tied to tools and machines. Some thinkers say we must see ourselves as one part of a big system. We are not more important than the rest of nature.

There are different ways to look at this. Some people focus on technology. They think new tools change how we live. N. Katherine Hayles writes about how we change with machines. This is sometimes called technological posthumanism. Other thinkers look at how we live with other living things. They say we should have a new sense of care for the earth. This includes all ecosystems and habitats.

Some ideas say humans are not the center of everything. This is a move away from old views. These old views often put humans above all else. Posthumanism asks us to rethink what is right and wrong. It asks how we belong in our world today. It helps us face new challenges in our lives.
