Ecotheology is a way of thinking about religion and nature. It looks at how what people believe affects the Earth. Some people think our views on faith help or hurt nature. Many people believe science and school are not enough to save the planet. They think faith can help people care more about the world.

Some thinkers have argued about how religions view the Earth. In 1967, Lynn White Jr. wrote about how some Christian ideas might harm nature. He said some people believed humans should rule over the world. But many other people in the Christian faith want to protect all living things. They look to teachers like Francis of Assisi for help.

Other traditions have deep roots in nature too. In Indonesia, the Sumba people do not hunt hornbill birds. They believe the birds look like a god. This helps the birds spread seeds to grow new plants. In other parts of Indonesia, people protect Dewa fish. They see these fish as guardians of sacred water. These beliefs help keep nature healthy and strong.
