This feeling is called embarrassment. It is a self-conscious emotion. This means you are thinking about how others see you. It often happens when you do something people do not like. You might feel a loss of honor or dignity.

Embarrassment can come from many things. You might tell a lie or make a mistake. Sometimes, other people cause it. A parent might show your baby pictures to friends. You might even feel it when watching someone else. This is called vicarious embarrassment. People who are empathic feel this more often.

Your body might show this feeling too. You might blush, which means your face turns red. You may also sweat or fidget. Some people try to hide it with a smile.

This feeling can actually help a group. People who feel embarrassment are less likely to be mean or aggressive. It acts like a brake on bad behavior. It helps people follow social rules.
