This is called blushing. It happens for many reasons. You might feel shy or embarrassed. You may also feel angry or scared. Some people blush because of romantic feelings.

Blushing happens because of blood flow. Tiny tubes in your skin carry blood. These are called capillaries. When you blush, more blood flows into these capillaries. This makes your cheeks and forehead look red. The red color can also reach your ears, neck, and chest. This area is called the blush region.

Facial skin is special. It has more capillary loops than other skin. The blood vessels in your cheeks are also wider. They sit closer to the surface of your skin. This makes them easy to see.

Blushing is hard to stop. It is an involuntary act. This means it happens on its own. Some think blushing is a signal to others. It can show that you are sorry or modest. Charles Darwin called blushing a very human expression.
