Eli Heckscher was a famous thinker from Sweden. He was born in Stockholm in 1879. He studied history and economics at two big schools. Later, he became a professor. He taught at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Heckscher is best known for his ideas about trade. He wrote a famous paper in 1919. This paper explains how countries trade with each other. His idea is called the Heckscher–Ohlin model. It says that countries sell things they can make easily.

For example, some lands have many workers. These lands might sell things like clothes. Other lands have a lot of money for tools and machines. These lands might sell things like cars or chemicals. This way of trading helps every country.

Heckscher wrote over 1,000 books and papers. He also started a research group in Sweden. This group helped people understand economic history. He was a Jewish man. During World War II, many people were treated unfairly because they were Jewish. This made it hard for people to read his work right away. His student, Bertil Ohlin, later helped his ideas reach more people.
