Richard Stone was a famous British economist. He was born in London in 1913. As a boy, he traveled to India. He also visited many parts of Asia. Later, he went to Cambridge to study. At first, he studied law. Then, he switched to economics. He wanted to make the world a better place.

During a hard time in the 1930s, many people lost jobs. This made Stone want to study why it happened. During World War II, he worked for the British government. He helped track the money and resources of the nation. This work led to the first national accounts in 1941.

Stone later became a leader at Cambridge. He helped make it a top center for research. He used a special way to track money. It is called double entry accounting. This system keeps everything in balance. Every bit of income has a matching cost. This helps us track trade across the whole world. In 1984, he won the Nobel Prize for this work. He is often called the father of national income accounting.
