Her father was King Agamemnon. Her mother was Queen Clytemnestra. She had a brother named Orestes.

Electra was not home when her father died. He was killed by her mother and a man named Aegisthus. This happened after the Trojan War. Electra felt great sadness and anger. She wanted to avenge her father.

Many writers have told her story in plays. In plays by Aeschylus, Electra helps her brother. She is unsure about the killing. In plays by Sophocles, she is very angry. She wants revenge more than anything. In plays by Euripides, she is very smart. She even leads the plan to kill her mother.

These stories are part of Greek mythology. People use her name in psychology too. They call a certain idea the Electra complex. Many authors still write about her today. They write books, poems, and even operas about her life.
